Anniversary Contest PDF Print E-mail
Written by Pitchwife

Y'all,

As a culmination to our "week" of anniversary updates, we're pleased to announce our latest contest, and in my opinion it's a doozy. A member of the community who wishes to remain anonymous sent me the following:

"I was thinking about something like this for the anniversary of Delver's Square. Then I saw your post on the week's worth of material, and thought "why not?"

I think it would be very cool to have an annual contest to contribute content to D2 for use by the community. I am willing to sponsor a small cash prize to do so this year."

After some discussion, we've decided to solicit entries for a series of contests, each with their own prize payout. The staff at Delver's Square is providing matching funds for conditional bonuses; in each category, if a minimum number of entries is received we will "kick" the prize.

Adventures

Prize: $75. Kicker: 5 or more entries - $100 1st / $50 2nd

A complete, original adventure. Judging will be based on how "Ptolus-y" the adventure is as well as its overall quality. Artwork and cartography will be a plus but are not strictly necessary. We strongly encourage you to submit as a .pdf in order to keep formatting consistent from your machine to ours, but it will not necessarily affect judging.

Setting Expansions

Prize $25. Kicker: 10 or more entries - $35 1st / $15 2nd

Either a person, place, or event detailed fully to expand the setting. Perhaps a church, a festival, a merchant's shop, etc.

Rules Expansions

Prize $25. Kicker: 10 or more entries - $35 1st / $15 2nd

Best "crunch" (Prestige Class, magic item, spell, machine, feat, etc.) that adds to the setting. Combinations of thematically-linked crunch as a single entry is welcome, but good stand-alones have a fair shot as well.

Props

Prize $25. Kicker: 10 or more entries - $35 1st / $15 2nd

Best original art, pdf for print outs, maps, etc. for DMs to be able to use for their games. As opposed to adventures or setting expansions, these tools will probably be stand-alone objects that are meant to stimulate a DM's ideas, or else help him or her to enhance their own work.

Rules Rules Rules!

First and foremost, authors maintain all ownership rights of their work, with the exception that they grant Delver's Square permission to publish their entry and to keep that entry posted.

The Anniversary Contest will accept entries between November 7th, 2007 and 11:59PM (US Pacific timezone, AKA GMT -08:00), December 4th, 2007. Winners will be announced in a special update on December 12th, 2007.

Unlike our previous contests, the entries will all be published as our December 5th, 2007 update. During the following week, we encourage feedback from the community as to the usefulness and overall quality of all entries. Final decisions as to the winner(s) of each category will be made by the admin team of Delver's Square and our anonymous contributor.

To submit an entry, add it to the Anniversary Section in the appropriate category. See the Submission Guide for a more detailed explanation.

Participants may enter any number of categories, and may enter each category any number of times. Multiple entries from one person do count towards prize kickers. For example, if Eldric IV enters the Electronic Prop category once, as does Skrir, Pitchwife, and d20monkey, and Christian Denton enters 6 times, this category will qualify for its prize kicker.

That example aside, the admin team (and our anonymous contributor) cannot participate in this contest. I know, right?

Prizes will be distributed via PayPal, or via check by request.

The admin team reserves the right to make any decision they see fit to ensure a smooth contest. No, I can't think of anything off the top of my head; this is a "close the unforeseen loophole" caveat.
